Lection MCP server for Cursor, VS Code and any MCP client

The Lection MCP server gives your editor or agent YouTube search, channel and comment tools, and after sign-in, your own Lection schedules and runs. Any client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP can connect with one URL.

Requires: An MCP client with remote (HTTP) server support. The YouTube tools need no account. Account tools need a free Lection account and an OAuth sign-in.

What it does

Public tools, no sign-in

youtube_search, youtube_channel_videos and youtube_comments return up to 20 rows per call from the official YouTube Data API.

Account tools after sign-in

my_lection_account, list_my_saved_scrapes, get_run_results, list_my_schedules, list_my_runs, schedule_extraction and pause_schedule work on your own Lection data.

Registry and source

Registry id io.github.eteleieto/lection-mcp. Source and README on GitHub at eteleieto/lection-mcp.

Set it up

5 steps, about ten minutes the first time.

  1. 1

    Pick the server URL

    Use https://www.lection.app/mcp. It works for any client, and the public tools need no sign-in.

  2. 2

    Add the config to your client

    In Cursor, add the snippet to .cursor/mcp.json. In VS Code, add it to .vscode/mcp.json. Snippets are below.

  3. 3

    Or add it from the terminal

    For Claude Code, run the claude mcp add command in the snippets section. Restart the client if the server does not show up.

  4. 4

    Sign in for account tools

    When your client starts OAuth, sign in with your Lection account. The schedule and run tools only return your data after sign-in.

  5. 5

    Run a tool to check the connection

    Ask your agent to run youtube_search with a keyword. Once you are signed in, ask for list_my_schedules.

Config snippets

The URL is the same for every client.

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json)

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "lection": {
      "url": "https://www.lection.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json)

{
  "servers": {
    "lection": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.lection.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Claude Code (terminal)

claude mcp add --transport http lection https://www.lection.app/mcp

Which endpoint to use

  • https://www.lection.app/mcp serves the public tools to any client, and offers OAuth for the account tools.
  • https://www.lection.app/mcp/account requires sign-in before the first request. Claude uses this one.

Example use cases

Research in your editor

Ask your coding agent to pull the top comments on a tutorial video and format them as a table for a blog draft.

Scrape health before a release

List your schedules and last run status from the terminal before you ship a change that depends on the data.

Feeding analysis scripts

Use youtube_channel_videos to pull a channel latest uploads into a script that tracks view counts over time.

Frequently asked questions

Which endpoint should I use?

Use https://www.lection.app/mcp for most clients. Use https://www.lection.app/mcp/account when your client must sign in before the first request, as Claude does.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The server is hosted at lection.app, so your client connects to a URL. The GitHub repo has the source and README if you want to read it.

What is the registry id?

io.github.eteleieto/lection-mcp, as published in the official MCP Registry.

Is there a row limit?

The public YouTube tools return up to 20 rows per call. Account tools return the rows of a saved scrape or run that you ask for.
