How to pick an Instagram giveaway winner

Step 1

Install the extension

Add the free Lection Chrome extension and make sure you are logged into Instagram in the same browser.

Choose winners and backups, one entry per person, tagged friends, a required hashtag and accounts to exclude, then pick.

What the picker checks

  • One entry per person: people who comment ten times still get one ticket, unless you turn this off.
  • Tagged friends: counts distinct @mentions in a single comment, ignoring the commenter's own name.
  • Required text: e.g. a hashtag or keyword you asked entrants to write.
  • Excluded accounts: your brand, staff, or partners can never win.
  • Fair draw: every eligible entry has the same chance, and the same account can't win twice.

Honest limits

  • Only top-level comments are loaded. Replies to comments are not entries.
  • The picker can't check whether someone follows you or liked the post. Check that for your winner by hand before announcing.
  • Instagram can rate-limit very long threads. If loading stalls, wait a few minutes and load again.
  • You are responsible for your giveaway's rules and for following Instagram's promotion guidelines and local laws.

How do I pick a random winner from Instagram comments?

Is this Instagram comment picker free?
Yes. Loading comments and drawing winners is free with no comment limit, and so is the winner image. Only downloading the full entries list as CSV, Excel, or JSON needs a free Lection account and uses credits (1 credit per 100 rows; free accounts get 5 credits a month).
Is the draw really random?
Each draw uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (Web Crypto), and every eligible entry has exactly the same chance. You can draw again, but for a public giveaway announce the first draw and screen-record it.
Can I count only one entry per person?
Yes, that is the default. Someone who comments many times gets one entry. Turn it off if your rules say each comment is an extra entry.
Can I require entrants to tag friends?
Yes. Set "Minimum friends tagged" and only comments with that many distinct @mentions count. With one entry per person, an account qualifies if any of its comments meets the rule.
Does it check followers or likes?
No. It only reads comments. Before you announce, open the winner's profile and check they follow you or liked the post if your rules require it, and draw a backup if they don't.
Do I need to give my Instagram password?
No. The extension reads comments in your own browser using the Instagram session you are already logged into. Lection never sees your password and never posts, likes, or comments.
